DO Cebreros

The wines of the DOP Cebreros originate from the slopes of the majestic Sierra de Gredos, descending northward to the valley of the Alberche River and southward toward the Tiétar valley. These ancient lands in Ávila, steeped in history, character, and granite, bestow the old vines cultivated in their soils with a distinct, mineral, and robust personality. These are high-altitude wines, perfect for modest celebrations and popular events. The region’s continental Mediterranean climate is extreme—snowy in winter, warm and dry in summer—which adds a unique character to the wines.

Since the 14th century, Cebreros wines have been praised for their quality, gaining great popularity in Madrid and Ávila during the 16th century. At the start of the 20th century, the region experienced a late arrival of phylloxera, but with less vineyard loss compared to other areas. The recovery of viticulture in Cebreros became evident from the 1970s onward, leading to its designation as Vino de la Tierra. With the arrival of new generations and fresh ideas, the region has consolidated its Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) Cebreros, emerging as one of the most promising representatives of Garnacha Tinta and Albillo Real.

The DOP Cebreros stands out for its ability to produce wines with a strong mineral identity, born from the region’s granite and slate soils. These wines are the product of old vines, many of them centenarian, which contribute depth and complexity to every bottle. Garnacha Tinta and Albillo Real are the predominant varieties, each offering unique characteristics that have been honed over centuries.

1600 vines per hectare

Old vines, averaging between sixty and eighty years of age, with some nearly centenarian, impart a distinctive character to the wine. This also ensures low yield but high-quality grapes, with production density around 1,600 vines per hectare.

Thanks to the dedication of the region's viticulturists and winemakers, DOP Cebreros continues to grow and gain recognition both nationally and internationally. The combination of traditional and modern techniques, along with a deep respect for the environment and terroir, ensures that Cebreros wines will remain a benchmark of quality and authenticity for years to come.

In summary, the wines of DOP Cebreros represent a rich and diverse heritage that, through the passion and effort of its producers, continues to evolve and stand out in the competitive world of wine. Each bottle is a testament to the history, character, and beauty of this unique wine-growing region.
