The Denomination of Origin was created in this territory in 2001, although the wine history dates to Roman times. But it was not until the 20th century when the region, which was previously known as the Tarragona Denomination of Origin, was recognized.

It has a total of 59 wineries spread over 16 municipalities, between the Priorat region and some of the Ribera del Ebro.
Characteristics of the DO Montsant
This DO is in the province of Tarragona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia.
The climate is Mediterranean with continental influence and the soils are predominantly clayey and calcareous. These conditions make the wines have a unique personality.
The wines are produced from native grape varieties, such as Garnacha, Cariñera, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The vineyards are located at this altitude above sea level. That favors a good concentration of aromas.
Production limited by a regulation that establishes the maximum quantity of grapes that can be harvested.
This Denomination of Origin is known as one of the youngest in Spain. But despite its youth, today, Montsant is recognized for its wines valued both for their quality and uniqueness. Also, has staged one of the most spectacular growths in the entire peninsula.
