DO Montsant

The Denomination of Origin was created in this territory in 2001, although the wine history dates to Roman times. But it was not until the 20th century when the region, which was previously known as the Tarragona Denomination of Origin, was recognized.

Finally, After the impulse of the viticulturists and wineries of the area, the unique character of their wines was recognized and the D.O. Montsant. Nowadays, it started with 28 registered wineries.

It has a total of 59 wineries spread over 16 municipalities, between the Priorat region and some of the Ribera del Ebro.

Characteristics of the DO Montsant

This DO is in the province of Tarragona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia.

The climate is Mediterranean with continental influence and the soils are predominantly clayey and calcareous. These conditions make the wines have a unique personality.

The wines are produced from native grape varieties, such as Garnacha, Cariñera, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
