What is a natural wine?
Natural wine differs from conventional wines because it seeks minimal intervention in the vineyard and the winery. For a wine to be considered natural, it must be made without chemical additives in either the vineyard or the winery, with hand‑harvested grapes and the utmost respect for the environment, promoting biodiversity and ecosystem health.
Nanit Natural is Hammeken Cellars’ interpretation of this concept. It is produced in vineyards in the DO Manchuela, where our winemaking team works with organic farming and a holistic sustainability philosophy.
In recent years, bottles of natural wine have begun to appear on restaurant menus, in supermarkets and in discussions. This movement is not a passing fad: it reflects a desire to recapture the pure expression of the grape and the terroir, while minimising human manipulation. But what does “natural” mean when we talk about wine?
Natural wine is produced with minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the cellar. It is made using organic farming practices. The low‑intervention principle allows the earth to do the work that technology would otherwise do.
The main goal of natural winemaking is to allow the true expression of the grape and the terroir, which refers to the unique characteristics of a vineyard’s soil, climate and location.
Our winemaking team has poured all its talent into producing a quality natural wine.
Nanit Natural Wine’s sustainability philosophy starts in the vineyard:
- Organic farming: Sustainable organic farming not only protects the environment, but also benefits the health of farmers and their families.
- Ideal location: It is produced in the vineyards of Manchuela, whose climatic conditions are ideal for growing organic grapes with almost no human intervention. This area offers high altitude, abundant sunshine (achieving optimal ripening), low humidity (favouring the health of the vines) and cool nights that preserve the freshness of the fruit.
- Water conservation: Dry farming is used, which helps conserve water.
- Emission reduction: The organic Bobal grapes are harvested by hand during the coolest hours of the day, which reduces carbon emissions.
- Zero waste: The grape pomace is upcycled.
To ensure that Nanit Natural Wine (Bobal) is clean, fresh and safe, we use the best healthy raw materials and follow a strict cleaning protocol throughout the winemaking process.
The quality of Nanit has been recognised internationally with all the awards it has received, enjoy naturally with Nanit!
